The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announced that the implementation of the Cargo Tracking Note (CTN) system took effect from the 1st of July 2018 - B/L date. The CTN must be issued for all shipments to Ghana (LCL/FCL/RoRo & Breakbulk), transit cargo included and can only be completed at the port of origin.

What is a CTN?

A Cargo Tracking Note or CTN is an official loading certificate which confirms detailed information about the the cargo and its movement between ports. Without a valid CTN or corresponding CTN number, the goods cannot be cleared and high penalties may apply. A maximum of 7 days occur to complete the process for validation.

What documents are required to get a validated CTN? 

  • Bill of Lading (final B/L incl. CTN number for validation);
  • Commercial invoice (in USD of EUR);
  • Freight invoice in case these charges are not specified on the commercial invoice;
  • Export Customs Document;
  • Packing list;
  • Country of origin of the goods;
  • Emailaddress consignee.
